TORONTO — The second free agent acquisition of the offseason, the Toronto Six have signed NCAA champion Lexi Templeman to a Premier Hockey Federation contract for the 2022-23 season.
“Toronto is just such an appealing place to me,” the forward said. “Being from Ontario and having spent the last five years playing Division I college in the United States, I think that for me, I really wanted to go somewhere closer to home. Toronto is a new organization and a very well known and respected organization as well, and I think having the opportunity to play for Toronto is just an obvious choice for me.”

The 22-year-old from Staffa, Ontario was a member of the 2021-22 Ohio State University Buckeyes that capped a dominant season by winning their first national title with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota-Duluth in the Frozen Four final in March. She scored seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 37 games during her fifth season of Division I competition.
The first four seasons of Templeman’s NCAA career were spent at Robert Morris University as a member of the Colonials women’s hockey program. She was named to the CHA All Rookie Team as a freshman, concluding the 2017-18 campaign with an impressive 21 points skating alongside Toronto’s other newest signee in star forward Brittany Howard. She finished second in team scoring as a sophomore in 2018-19, recording 32 points in 36 games, then had her most productive season as a junior in 2019-20, with a career-high 44 points, which ranked
second on the team and across the College Hockey America conference, where she earned two straight All-CHA Second Team honours.

Pairing that success along with her rising performance, Templeman went from being an alternate captain in her third season to captain as a senior in 2020-21. The Canadian elevated her game in a leadership role, amassing 30 points in 25 games, which ranked first on the squad and earned her a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Combined with her fifth season in Ohio, her collegiate totals amount to an impressive 138 points in 167 career games.
“We welcome Lexi Templeman to the T6 family. We look forward to seeing Lexi’s style, as she is a smart hockey player who is constantly moving her feet and puts herself in great positions to score goals,” said Angela James, General Manager of the Toronto Six. "Her energy level is excellent, and I think with all those attributes, she will definitely contribute to our already stellar front end core. Given her experience at Robert Morris and Ohio State, she has a great pedigree for winning and we can’t wait to see her in a T6 uniform.”
Prior to attending post-secondary, Templeman, who stands at five-foot-two, played with the K-W Jr. Rangers in the Provincial Women’s Hockey League. Across 123 games played, she recorded 77 points on 27 goals and 50 assists. Templeman becomes the team’s seventh signing, joining Howard as the lone free agents to date with returnees Shiann Darkangelo and Emma Woods up front, Taylor Davison and Taylor Woods on defence, and goaltender Elaine Chuli.
Now, as she prepares to start her newest venture in the Premier Hockey Federation, Templeman can’t wait to be back in Canada and hit the ice in Toronto before her family and friends. “I’m really excited to return to my home province and only be a couple hours from home, and have everyone come out and watch and help fill the stands,” she said. “As soon as the Toronto Six became an organization just a few years back, I knew that was somewhere that I wanted to play one day, and so for me, this is a dream come true.”
