TORONTO — Adding another local talent up front, the Toronto Six have signed forward Nadine Edney to a Premier Hockey Federation contract for the 2022-23 season. Additional terms of the deal will not be disclosed. “I’ve honestly been interested in the league for a while now,” said Edney.
“My sister [Sarah Edney] used to play for the Buffalo Beauts, so I’ve kept my eye on it, but playing overseas took me away from that. Coming home, I was super pumped that there’s still a team in Toronto and they were able to have a spot for me.”

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Edney joins the Six following two seasons as a member of EHV Sabres Wien in the European Women’s Hockey League (EWHL), where she totalled 29 points in 35 games. Prior to that, the 25-year-old spent the 2019-20 season with the Sydney Sirens in the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL), where she tallied 30 points, including 17 goals and 13 assists in 12 regular season games.
During her first professional season, the left-handed shooter was Sydney’s second-leading point-scorer. She played alongside her older sister Sarah, who was a member of the Buffalo Beauts for two seasons from 2017-19. “The Toronto Six is very excited to have Nadine Edney added to our roster,” said Angela James, General Manager of the Toronto Six. “Edney is the Brad Marchand of women's hockey, and she's the type of player that you would want on your team versus someone you play against. We're very proud to have Nadine on the team and welcome her to the T6 family.”
Before embarking on a career at the professional level, Edney, who stands at five-foot-three, played collegiately at St. Lawrence University. The Bachelor of Science graduate was named an assistant captain in her junior year, collecting 17 points in 35 games, which included nine goals and eight assists. She also earned ECAC Hockey All-Academic honors for the 2017-18 season. Named captain for her senior season, Edney capped off her collegiate tenure with career-high totals, recording 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists. Edney’s 19 points saw her finish fourth in team scoring and earn ECAC Hockey All-Academic honours for a second
straight campaign. A core member up front for the Saints, Edney compiled 57 points, registering 30 goals while adding 27 assists in 141 career games.
Edney becomes the team’s fifteenth signing, joining Courtney Gardiner, Kati Tabin, Emma Greco, Carly Jackson, Brittany Howard and Lexi Templeman as the team’s free agent acquisitions to date, alongside returnees Shiann Darkangelo, Emma Woods and Breanne Wilson-Bennett up front, Taylor Davison, Taylor Woods, Saroya Tinker and Lindsay Eastwood on defence, and Elaine Chuli between-the-pipes.

Over the moon to resume her pro career on home soil, Edney is looking forward to bringing her
career full circle and making an impact in league competition. “Obviously, I don’t want to give the dream up,” she explained. “I’m excited for the hockey, I’m excited for the intensity, and honestly, I’m excited to be a part of a team again. I’m just excited to be on a team at home again.”
