TORONTO — An impressive acquisition to fortify its goaltending tandem, the Toronto Six have signed goaltender Carly Jackson to a Premier Hockey Federation contract for the 2022-23 season. “I started my tenure with the [Buffalo] Beauts and had nothing but a positive experience with them, but it was just time for a change for me,” the backstop said. “I talked with Angela James on the phone, and I was starstruck and pretty amazed to be able to talk with her and pick her brain.
“Every single experience I’ve had with the Six, whether playing against them or during free agency, was nothing but exceptional,” she continued. “I have so much respect for this team and a lot of admiration for the players and staff. Having the opportunity to play for the Six, it was an offer I just couldn’t turn down. I’m really excited to be in the City of Toronto and be a member of the Six, and show the city what I can do.”
Jackson was named an alternate captain for her second pro season, finishing 2021-22 as a Beauts fan favourite, recording a .908 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against-average across 18 regular season appearances. She finished fourth in the PHF with six wins, including her first career shutout against Toronto in the Buffalo Believes Outdoor Classic on February 21, where she turned aside all 36 shots faced. A fan voted All-Star for the 2022 PHF All-Star Showcase, Jackson trailed only T6 netminder Elaine Chuli for minutes played, and led the entire PHF with 521 shots and 473 saves.
Spending the last two campaigns as the club’s starting netminder, Jackson has compiled a career record of 7-15-1, with a .908 save percentage and a GAA of 3.22. Extending her impact beyond the ice in Western New York, Jackson was the organization’s 2021 recipient of the PHF’s Foundation Award for being the player on her team to most exemplify hockey’s core values on the ice and in the community. Her growing list of PHF achievements also includes 2021 recognition among the Fans’ Three Stars of the Season.
Jackson becomes the team’s ninth signing, joining Brittany Howard and Lexi Templeman as the lone free agents to date, alongside returnees Shiann Darkangelo and Emma Woods up front, Taylor Davison and Taylor Woods on defence, and Chuli between-the-pipes. “Whenever we played against Buffalo, Carly was the back bone of that game,” said Angela James, General Manager of the Toronto Six. “As I told Carly, she and Elaine Chuli will be magic together, and I look forward to having the top two goalies in the league playing for the T6.

Cementing herself as a staple within the Buffalo community, Jackson made the jump to professional hockey in 2020 after four years of NCAA competition at the University of Maine. Throughout her tenure, the third overall draft pick accomplished numerous feats, including setting the single-season program record for wins recorded by a Black Bears goaltender as a Sophomore. Starting in 122 games, the now 24-year-old amassed a GAA of 1.98 and a .928 save percentage. She was recognized on two occasions as a Maine Scholar Athlete, receiving both gold and silver medals in consecutive years. As a freshman in 2016-17, Jackson was named to
the the Hockey East All-Academic Team. The following campaign, the five-foot-five backstop earned recognition as a WHEA All-Star Honorable Mention.
The Amherst, NS native adds past experience from the Under-18 Canadian National Women’s Team, where she secured a silver at the 2013 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship. Ecstatic to get to work on home soil and focus on hockey full-time, Jackson is looking forward to extending her career and becoming a regular contributor to the T6 magic. “Just being a part of it. Being a part of the Six, being in the incredible City of Toronto, being in Canada, and getting to work with some of the most talented and respected hockey players in the world,” she said. “It’s an incredible opportunity. The day that I step onto the ice for the first time at practice or training camp, it’s going to be a good day. “I’m happy to be part of the league, but also a part of the Six, and I just feel so lucky to be here. To be able to watch what this organization has done for the past couple of years, and now to be a part of it, it lights a fire in my chest, and I’m just so happy to be here.”
