SOME PLAYERS GO UNNOTICED
With the Golf Channel cameras seemingly permanently focused on what the Korda sisters, and Lexi Thompson are doing. There are a number of American golfers that go relatively unnoticed by golf fans.
The ISPS Handa World Invitational has given us a rare opportunity to see some of these other American women showcase their skills. There have been a few standouts that have caught my eye over the first couple of days. It will be interesting to see if they can keep this level of play continue through the weekend.
PLAYERS
Lauren Coughlin
- Rolex Ranking 186
- CME Ranking 84
Made her first cut on the LPGA Tour in 2018. Her highest finish at an LPGA Event is T12.
Lauren Coughlin is a long and accurate driver of the golf ball. She just struggles with the Flat stick. Poor Lag Putting that leads to fat too many 3 Putts have limited her success. If she xan get the Putter figured out she will become a legitimate threat on the LPGA Tour.
Allisen Corpuz
- Rolex Ranking 134
- CME Ranking 60
This is her Rookie Season on the LPGA Tour. Earned her first Top 10 finish at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match play last May.
Allisen Corpuz had a lot of success as an Amateur golfer. She was a standout at events held in her home state of Hawaii. In her Rookie Season she has the one Top 10 but also has a Solo 11 at the Meijer LPGA Classic. She has a good all around game. Just small improvements, and getting accustomed to some of the courses on the LPGA Tour should develop naturally.
Amanda Doherty
- Rolex Ranking 211
- CME Ranking 97
This is also Amanda's Rookie Season. Her best LPGA Tour finish is a T14 at this year's DIO Implant LA Open.
She was a very competitive Epson Tour player but never recorded a Win. Generally I don't pay much attention to players that haven't had winning success on smaller Tours. Crunching the numbers it's easy to see why she has an issue securing a victory. Shedrives the ball well, and is confident with the Putter. The issue is that she only hits 64% of Greens. That's compounded by a poor Scrambling ability. So shevreally needs to work on her Iron and Wedge game. That's a significant disadvantage against any player that's even somewhat dialed in.
Amanda Doherty has started this event out great but can she keep it going? Her path to victory is easily the most difficult of these three players.
