Canada will wrap up its group stage play on Wednesday evening against Costa Rica and on Tuesday, Head Coach Bev Priestman and midfielder Cloe Lacasse met the media to discuss the upcoming matchup.

“Obviously we have our own aims and objectives”, Priestman responded in her opening answer. “ We have to keep the momentum going and I want to come out of this game with a good goal differential and another win and building on our performances.”

Going into Wednesday’s game Canada tops Group C with two wins, six points, and a +10 goal differential after scoring six against El Salvador and four against Paraguay.

“Going forward we need to have the strongest position possible”, Cloe Lacasse said.

“We are not going to take Costa Rica lightly and they are a difficult team to break down and we will be focused on our gameplan going into this game and we want the best possible outcome.” - CanWNT midfielder, Cloe Lacasse

The two teams most recently played at the Concacaf W Championship in Mexico in 2022 and the Canadians won that game 2-0 thanks to goals from Sophie Schmidt and Jesse Fleming.

“Obviously Costa Rica have more threat”, Priestman added. “ They have some key threats up top that you have seen across this tournament and Canada against Costa Rica has always been a good game and I don’t expect anything different.”

Lacasse was asked about the potential of a surprise from their Costa Rican opponents but felt as long as they play their game they won’t be expecting it.

“Going into this game we know Costa Rica needs a result”, Lacasse said. “ Generally they play with a lot of passion and heart and they are tough to break down and we know they will have that type of mindset but we need to focus on ourselves and we want a big result against this team.”
